IIR masks are recommended when it is not possible to respect the minimum anti-contagion safety distance: at work, in medical and hospital environments, in crowded places or for public use.
Type IIR masks possess greater resistance to projection (splashing) of body fluids onto the external surface than type I or II, and are primarily used to create a barrier between the wearer's mouth and nose and the external environment .
They counteract the spread of flu by blocking the droplets of respiratory secretions emitted by the wearer, and also preventing the same droplets or sprays of secretions or other biological fluids from reaching the mucous membranes of the nose and mouth from the outside.
Disposable masks must be immediately thrown into the recycling bin, inside a tightly closed plastic bag.
